Garrick is a proudly independent watch brand based in Norfolk, England, known for crafting limited-run timepieces that resonate with collectors who appreciate heritage, individuality, and the brand’s ethos. Founded by David Brailsford and Simon Michelmayr, Garrick has come a long way since its launch in 2014, steadily moving more of its production in-house to deepen its roots in traditional British watchmaking. The latest creation, the S3 Deadbeat Seconds, is a natural evolution, blending elements from last year’s S3 Mk2 and the S2 Deadbeat models. It represents everything Garrick fans admire – striking design, exceptional finishing, and a wealth of personalisation options.
As mentioned, the new Garrick S3 Deadbeat Seconds is perhaps best described as a merger of the S3 and S3 MK2 (see below),fitted with a deadbeat mechanism. The 100m water-resistant case, crafted from stainless steel (or gold), measures 42mm in diameter and 11mm thick. It features the signature large, fluted onion-style crown and has sapphire crystals front and back; the one on the front comes with AR coating. Even though the case offers a familiar look, it doesn’t stop one from admiring the shape and proportions, to which 22mm lugs contribute nicely.

The S3 Deadbeat Seconds’ openworked dial reveals most of the movement; it is reduced to just the circular-grained minutes/seconds ring made from German silver with crisp infilled markings and the Garrick logo at the top. Naturally, with the central seconds hand becoming the Prima donna here, the running seconds subdial found on the S3 and S3 Mk2 models is gone, yet the signature balance bridge retains its position at 6 o’clock.
The remaining power reserve indicator has taken the shape of a ring with an appropriate section to signal necessary action marked in red; red is also the pointer, which is tiny and thus subtle; it serves the purpose but does not distract or contradict the handmade heat-blued, polished and centrally mounted hour and minutes hands. The central seconds hand is also heat-blued and polished, reaching the chapter ring for precise reading. The chapter ring can be infilled with any colour and handsets can be made to order (observatoire hands, lancine, spade, anchor, heat blued, purpled or polished).
The new S3 Deadbeat Seconds watch is powered by the manually wound Garrick calibre DB-G07, which is built with 21 jewels and operates at 18,000 vibrations/hour frequency, delivering 45 hours of power reserve. The in-house free-sprung balance is tested and regulated for a daily variance of +3 seconds, thus offering better specs than those required by the COSC certification.
The reverse side of the movement showcases beveled and frosted bridges and a hand-engraved balance cock. The deadbeat mechanism – the wheel in the centre is the one that moves the seconds hand via a deadbeat spring mechanism connecting it to the reverse wheel – is also on display. As usual, Garrick offers bridgework and components finishing options to include not just frosting, they can be grained or mirror-polished; wheels can be in gold, silver or rhodium. While the watch’s presentation at launch leaves nothing to complain about, the myriad of decorative options makes the idea of creating a unique and very personal exemplar quite appealing.
The S3 Deadbeat Seconds is worn on a handmade leather strap – choose alligator, calf leather, buffalo or ostrich – closed with a pin buckle. The price for the steel version is GBP 40,000 (excl VAT) and GBP 47,000 (excl. VAT) for the gold model; usually, one must make a 65% deposit, with the rest paid before delivery.
